Kitesurfing Diani Beach

Wind Seasons: Diani Beach experiences two primary wind seasons for kitesurfing. The long season, known as Kaskazi, occurs from December to March, with consistent winds blowing from the northeast. The short season, Kusi, lasts from June to September, bringing winds from the southeast.

Wind Strength: During the Kaskazi season, wind speeds range from 15 to 25 knots, providing excellent conditions for kitesurfing. The Kusi season sees slightly lighter winds ranging from 10 to 20 knots, still offering enjoyable kitesurfing opportunities.

Wave Conditions: Both wind seasons at Diani Beach offer favourable wave conditions. The Kaskazi season generally brings smaller waves ideal for beginners and freestyle riders. During the Kusi season, larger swells may occur, providing more challenging wave-riding experiences for advanced kitesurfers.

Reef Protection: The natural coral reef located offshore at Diani Beach acts as a protective barrier, creating a calm 900-metre lagoon. This sheltered area is perfect for beginners to practice kitesurfing in a safe environment without strong waves.

Wave Formation: Beyond the reef, the open waters of the Indian Ocean create consistent wave formations, making Diani Beach a hotspot for wave riding. The reef break contributes to well-shaped waves that cater to both beginners and advanced kitesurfers seeking challenges.

Wave Variety: Diani Beach offers a range of wave types to suit different skill levels and preferences. Close to the shore, smaller waves are suitable for beginners learning to ride waves. As you venture further out, larger and more powerful waves provide an exciting playground for experienced wave riders and freestyle enthusiasts.

White Sandy Shoreline: Diani Beach is renowned for its pristine white sandy shoreline that stretches for approximately 17 kilometres. The soft and powdery sand in front of our Kite School is wide and spacious and provides ideal conditions for kite set up and kite training.

Protected Marine Reserve: The beach in Diani is adjacent to the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park and Reserve, offering a vibrant underwater ecosystem. Snorkelling and diving enthusiasts can explore colourful coral reefs and a diverse array of marine life.
